It goes without saying, academics are the primary focus of the students at Colby. This does not mean that athletics - or other co-curriculars such as music, student-government, performing arts, community service, etc. - are not important nor downplayed. But rather, that what goes on in the classroom is the primary function or purpose at the College. Students, who then also dedicate themselves to another aspect of the collegiate experience (the co-curriculars) must accordingly learn how to distribute their time to meet all challenges in front them. I am proud to say that as a collective group the swimmers and divers often go beyond simply balancing academics and athletics, but are further involved in music, on-stage performances, our SGA, residence life, SAAC, volunteerism, faculty governance committees and the list goes on and on. In fact, the academic focus and the opportunity to be involved within our campus is why our team members have chosen Colby.
At the end of each semester, our coaching staff takes time to review how our team members have done with their studies and are progressing toward their academic goals. We also take this time, to honor those who have excelled in the classroom by awarding team members who have a gpa above 3.40 with a bag of candy.
