Performer of the Meet: MIT Invite 12/3
Women: Chelsea Heneghan ‘11
Heneghan had several stellar performances at the Invite earning her top ten places in all her individual events, while at the same time “looking a whole lot better than she did after returning from abroad last year.” Her time in the 500 of 5:17.75 earned her 10th place, in the 200, she was 7th with a 2:00.06, and was 9th in the 1650 in 18:27.94. We are looking forward to seeing some serious speed from this senior captain as the year progresses.
Men: Ryan Fischer ‘12
Showing his strengths as a multi-talented swimmer, Fischer swam a tough event list. Beginning with the 500 free in which he placed 21st in 5:09.63, Fischer then swam the 200 IM (19th, 2:06.53), 400 IM (18th, 4:36.08), 100 breast (11th, 1:03.67), 100 free (35th, 52.6), and 200 breast (8th, 2:21.19). Proving his endurance and swimming smart races, along with “great finishes in the breast and IM events” led Fischer to a successful weekend.
Practice Swimmers of the Week: 11/29-12/2
Josie Bazemore ’13 was named the practice swimmer of the week after a tough 5 days of practice. Coming back after Thanksgiving ready to work, Josie has been consistent in her effort to improve both her technique and her strength. Whether pumping iron in the weight room or working her way through an IM set, Josie has a positive mental attitude that allows her to always accept the challenge.
Brendan Tschaen ’14 has had a great start to his first collegiate season, and is already seeing his hard work in practice come through in meets. Though a preexisting back injury has kept his butterfly to minimum, he has been working to improve his sprinting in both back and free, and has already posted best times this season in events in both. We are looking forward to seeing what Brendan’s hard work will allow him to do this season.
