2008 - 2009 (where did the time go?!?)

What a season 2008-2009 turned out to be for the Colby Swimming & Diving Team! From an alumni meet and a successful dual meet season to academic achievements to amazing championship meet performances - it has been by all accounts a tremendous year . . . except for keeping up with this blog which has been my downfall this year. To our alums I apologize for letting this go - and will work hard to get a re-cap of our season over the coming weeks. Here are some of our achievements in 2008-2009 that will be covered in future weeks:

<> Both Men's & Women's Teams were recognized for the 19 consecutive semester as All Academic Teams by the CSCAA for their combined gpas.

<> Women's Team secured the CBB Title for the 6th consecutive year enroute to a 6-3 dual meet record.

<> Men's Team defeated Bates for the 5th consectuive year, but fell to Bowdoin in a tight battle. The men's team achieved a dual meet record of 3-6.

<> Women's Team Finished 5th at the NESCAC Championships just a bit out of fourth.

<> Men's Team Finished 8th at NESCAC Championships rebounding from dual meet season to beat both Bowdoin and Trinity to whom they fell to in dual meets.

<> 8 Swimmers achieved multiple NCAA B-Cut Time Standards and Kelsey Potdevin, who achieved an A-Cut Standard in the 100 Backstroke (57.25) will represent Colby at the NCAA Nationals Championships for her 4th consecutive year.

<> 11 School Records were broken this season & many performances earned spots on the Top 20 Times List.

<> On the Alumni Front... there was a strong turnout for the Alumni Meet on November 15th with some great swim and even better stories. This past month Mindy Williams '03, currently the head swim coach at Simmons College, was honored as Coach of the Year for her team's performance at the New England Championship Meet, Clay Smith '03 passed The Bar Exam, Andrew Peterson '08 passed The Series7 Exam and is working in Portland, Chris DeSantis '06 helped his UPenn swimmers to great success at the Ivy League Champs, Stephen Feldman '01 experienced a similar success with his Milton Academy swimmers at the NEPrep Champs, Laura Miller '05 is now teaching & coaching in Boca Raton, FL, Jess Knight '02 has returned to the water to set several Maine Masters records and will be getting married this summer to current Colby track coach Jared Beers, Jonathan Eck '03 and wife Sarah are expecting their first child, and Maddie Given '08 - who is currently collecting acceptances to grad school - will be cheering Kelsey on to victory at the Univ of Minn next week as will Weather Potdevin '07 who is flying in from Alaska to support her sister!

Well this at least gives you a quick overview of the past season - and as I said you can expect more details over the next couple of weeks. For now - if you want to get a taste for our level of performance - you can check out the men's & women's top times lists which now include performances from this year.

Until The Next Post....Go Blue!!
